Renovating a home is exciting, but the electrical scope is where schedules slip and budgets expand if you do not plan. Kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and additions each bring their own load needs, protection rules, and inspection steps. Here is a clear electrical checklist for Toronto homeowners that also explains how to work smoothly with your general contractor so you avoid rework, failed inspections, and surprise costs.

Start with a load calculation and a panel check

Bathrooms need quiet fans that actually move air. Kitchens may require a dedicated circuit for a high draw hood. Heated floors need a properly sized circuit and a thermostat rated for the load. In basements, factor in sump pumps, dehumidifiers, or radon fans, each on appropriate circuits. If you are adding a mini split or heat pump, the outdoor unit and indoor heads must be coordinated with pad locations, penetrations, and disconnects. Your electrician and HVAC contractor should agree on routes and breaker sizes before rough-in.
